Our Story is a love story, a journey, and a promise.
Who We Are
|
My husband and I met at a country club when I was in college . We weren't there as members, he was the Chef and I was a waitress. It wasn't an immediate love story but one that took time. After about a year of working there, we finally went on our first date. After that , neither of us had dates with anyone else again. We have been together ever since. That was 1996. For the next three years we moved around, first to Rhode Island where he was the Executive Chef at a Country Club and then we returned to Greenville where he was an Executive Chef at a start up restaurant and piano bar. In 1999 we got married and decided to buy our own restaurant in Peachtree City, Ga. In 2000, we had our first child and in 2001 we had our second child. We realized in a short time the restaurant business was not going to work with the dreams we had for our family so we decided to sell it. My husband went to work for a Food Service Company, vowing to one day return to the kitchen.
In the next year, my husband's father fought and lost his battle with cancer leaving his business in need of a leader. We sold our home, packed up two children and moved to Easley, SC, back to family. For the next thirteen years we ran the family manufacturing business. It has allowed us to have the stable family life we needed as our children grew. In 2016 we made the decision that the business was declining and after 118 years, the family business would close. We looked at each other and decided that now was the time to pursue our dream. It was time to get back to our roots, our love, our passion. It was time to open a place, a venue that could be that for both of us. So, in 2016 we borrowed money, found land we both loved and have gone all in. With his degree from the Culinary Institute of America and my love of planning and experience with the front end of weddings and events, we believe that Charlyn Farms is going to be amazing. Our lives have been an amazing love story up to this point. Days filled with love, struggles, compromise, and compassion. We have gone through so much but we have also leaned on each other and survived. It is time that our journey ends where our story began, doing what we love. |
